Clearing the Line With Our Jordan Spreader- August 7, 2010

Maintaining our right of way and keeping the trees and brush at bay is a gargantuan task.  Thanks to volunteers over the winter, our ex D&H Jordan Spreader helps to make this all the easier.  Come along for a ride!

First off, we'd like to welcome back engineer M. Bates after a period of absence. Just about all set, our train today is the plough, engine 3051 and a coach.  Boy Scouts are over from Norwich to see how our spreader operates- they're cosmetically restoring one. Just to make sure we're all set, the wings retracted before we depart Milford. Moving along!  Nice steady slow pace between Milford and Clintonville.
Operator B. Panaro and the Boy Scouts keep an eye on things. Its the spotter's job to keep an eye on the level of the plough and keep an eye out for trees. Chief Mechanical Officer C. Lord spots on the ground... ... and admires the spreader's handiwork soon afterwards.
Time to hit the other side, pushing north. Volunteer D. Hull keeps an eye on things. Head brakeman and President B. Hodges keeps an eye out front as head north to another bit of clearing. Heading back now, a view of the fairly new crossing gates and lights at Route 166.
Nice and slow by the Cooperstown Dreams Park Station. And this is why- clearances are tight! Clear of the station, we head on south for Milford. 3051 switches out the spreader before a guest engineer booking.
